OVERVIEW
Owen D. Ramey was born in 1949 in Hamilton, Ohio. He was admitted to the bar in 1975, Michigan; 1977, U.S. District Court, Western District of Michigan; 1989, U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit.
Owen became the chief prosecuting attorney in Allegan County in 1977. He came to Kalamazoo in 1978 and worked at the law firm of Gemrich, Moser until the year 1980 when he joined Cornell, Dalzell, Attorneys at Law.
Owen’s legal experience covers many areas, including criminal and civil litigation, family law, corporate and business law, estate planning, real estate, municipal law in both State and Federal Court.
Most recently Owen has litigated on behalf of bankruptcy trustees in the Federal Western District of Michigan against the Big Banks in the sub-prime scandal. Presently, Owen is one of the lead counsels in the Wayside Church case, a Federal class action involving the counties in Michigan wrongfully taking the equity in people’s homes for failure to pay property taxes. After six years of litigation, Owen and his co-counsel expect to soon prevail and get back the equity and money of thousands of property owners.
Owen is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Kalamazoo and Allegan County Bar associations. He has served as an officer for the Kalamazoo County Trial Lawyers Association and was a founding member. His federal court experience includes both civil and criminal litigation and appeals.
Owen has engaged in other business interests as a tree grower (Ramey’s Roots) and real estate developer. Owen has also enjoyed coaching Little League, AYSO soccer, and being an assistant girl’s tennis coach at Kalamazoo Hackett High School.
